Job Summary

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Wildland Firefighters to join our team as temporary employees. As a Wildland Firefighter, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to wildland fire suppression, prevention, and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Suppress and manage wildland fires in forest, range, and desert environments
  • Perform physical labor in extreme weather conditions, including temperatures above 100 degrees F and below freezing
  • Operate specialized wildland fire tools and equipment, such as Pulaski's, shovels, and chainsaws
  • Monitor wildland fires and collect and record fire-related data
  • Participate in wildland fire preparedness activities, including maintaining fire tools and equipment
Requirements
  • Meet the physical demands of the job, including arduous exertion for protracted periods of time
  • Have a valid state driver's license and be willing to travel by fixed-wing or rotor-wing aircraft
  • Be able to pass a background investigation and/or fingerprint check
  • Meet the education and experience requirements for the GS-03, GS-04, or GS-05 level, depending on the position

Working Conditions

As a Wildland Firefighter, you will be working in a variety of environments, including forest, range, and desert areas. You will be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including temperatures above 100 degrees F and below freezing. You will also be required to wear personal protective equipment, such as boots, hard hat, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing.
