Position Summary: This role is focused on evaluating and recommending actions concerning credit assessments, property evaluations, and legal documentation. Familiarity with the statutes, regulations, guidelines, and policies of the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) regarding multi-family loan qualifications is essential.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Multifamily Underwriting Manager.
Position Responsibilities:
Under the Multi-Family Loan Purchase Program, the incumbent will review loan submission requests, including credit and appraisal analyses of the collateral provided. The role involves determining recommendations for acceptance or denial of loan requests based on AHFC criteria.
In the Direct Lending program, the underwriter will process various multi-family, congregate, special needs, senior housing, and condominium association loan applications from receipt through to closing. Recommendations for acceptance or denial will also be made based on AHFC standards.
Key duties include presenting loan proposals to the loan committee, reviewing Loan Commitment Contracts to ensure all conditions are met prior to funding, and collaborating with lenders and borrowers to fulfill outstanding requirements for timely closings.
The underwriter will also ensure the accuracy and completeness of closing documents and maintain accurate records of loan files for the Multi-Family loan programs.
Additionally, the role involves attending meetings to inform lenders and the public about available multi-family and special needs loans, as well as handling extensive communication with the public and lenders regarding program and underwriting inquiries.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Multifamily lending processes, including credit evaluations, appraisal assessments, and relevant statutes and regulations related to AHFC.
Skills: Effective planning, organization, and management of workflow; strong analytical skills; clear and concise written communication; and the ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in business, finance, banking, economics, or a related field, coupled with three or more years of mortgage lending experience, is required. Experience should encompass a combination of mortgage underwriting, loan processing, and servicing.
