Historical Preservation Specialist

The Shawnee State University Center for Public History seeks a skilled Historical Preservation Specialist to facilitate community outreach and promote cultural heritage tourism in Appalachia. This role involves working with the Director and/or Assistant Director of Research and Outreach to secure documentation for historical sites associated with the Underground Railroad in the tri-state region of OH-KY-WV.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct research and documentary work on Underground Railroad historical sites
Work with the Director and/or Assistant Director of Research and Outreach to secure needed documentation
Generate bibliographies of primary and secondary sources, photographic images, and oral history interviews
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in History, Communications, Journalism, or Museum Studies
Or successful completion of at least 16 semester hours in history or related field
Or possess at least three years' experience in writing and storytelling-centered work
Valid driver's license
Working Conditions
This position involves off-site, remote work with occasional in-person site visits and team meetings. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with excellent writing and communication skills, able to work collaboratively with a range of team members.
