Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Estate Gardening to join our team at The Inn at Little Washington. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for the overall management of the Estate Gardens and Grounds Division, ensuring that our 5-star standards of excellence are maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise a team of grounds staff, providing direction and guidance to ensure the highest level of service and quality.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive landscape maintenance program, including seasonal focus and IPM practices.
  • Supervise and manage horticultural applications, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Work closely with the Chef Proprietor and General Manager to implement the vision and direction of The Inn, ensuring that the gardens and grounds are aligned with our brand and standards.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the Grounds Division, working closely with the Director of Finance to ensure alignment with the Inn's cash flow cycles.
  • Manage and maintain all tools, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring that they are in good working order and that staff are properly trained in their use.
  • Conduct daily walk-throughs of the grounds to identify priorities and inform daily activities, ensuring that all areas are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Monitor and manage all exterior water features, including fountains and the Koi Pond Garden.
  • Develop and implement an effective IPM program, ensuring that all horticultural applications are properly managed and recorded.
  • Work closely with the Associate Estate Gardener to develop and manage task lists, ensuring that all areas are covered and that staff are properly trained and supervised.
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in estate/fine garden management, commercial landscape maintenance, or a related field.
  • Active Commercial Pesticide Applicators License or Registered Technician Certification.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. without risk of bodily injury.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, if necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or associate's degree in Horticulture or a related field.
  • Experience with holiday décor or seasonal display installation and management.
  • Ability to operate compact utility loaders, skid steer loaders, and associated attachment implements.
