Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Veterinary Surgical Assistant to join our team at The Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine Inc. As a key member of our surgical team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standard of peri-operative and intraoperative surgical care for all surgical patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily schedule with surgeons and anesthesia team
  • Verify patient positioning, surgical margins, and surgical equipment with surgeons
  • Set up for patient prep and operating rooms for scheduled procedures
  • Test and maintain electric surgical equipment
  • Ensure that OR's are stocked and appropriately disinfected each day
  • Organize and maintain surgical implant and disposables inventory
  • Maintain inventory of supplies within the surgical core and in OR's
  • Work closely with Central Sterilization team to ensure availability of instruments and packs for daily procedures
  • Knowledge of correct instrument care and sterilization techniques
  • Maintain surgery case logs and facilitate operative reports
  • Attend departmental rounds and submit histopathology/culture samples
  • Assist with wound management and bandage changes, and properly run bloodwork
  • Ability to follow all Central Hospital's Standard Operating Procedures
Requirements
  • General knowledge of surgical instrument identification and location
  • Ability to develop quality orthopedic and soft tissue radiographs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
