Position Overview

The Cook plays a vital role in preparing and cooking a diverse range of meals for our residents, staff, and visitors. This position involves following recipes and coordinating cooking schedules to align with mealtime requirements. Additionally, the Cook will oversee other dietary staff in the absence of the Dietary Services Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and handle food in compliance with all applicable sanitary regulations.
  • Create nutritionally balanced and appealing meals, including modified and therapeutic diets as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Adhere to scheduled meal times.
  • Implement measures to minimize food waste, including participating in production meetings and utilizing production sheets.
  • Maintain dietary equipment in good working condition.
  • Follow established menus and special dietary instructions.
  • Monitor food temperatures according to policy, ensuring proper preparation, cooling, and storage in line with regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain open communication with supervisors.
  • Collaborate effectively with other dietary department personnel.
  • Ensure residents and their families receive the highest quality of service in a supportive and respectful environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in institutional food service is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
