Join Waymo's Perception Team

Waymo is a pioneering autonomous driving technology company with a mission to revolutionize mobility and save lives. Our Perception team is at the forefront of this mission, building the system that enables our self-driving cars to "see" the world around them.

We're seeking a highly skilled Technical Lead to drive horizontal efforts in building state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision Language Models (VLMs) for various perception applications, including scene understanding and object understanding.

As a member of our team, you'll collaborate with researchers across Alphabet and work with multiple problem domain teams to develop complex models and techniques at scale. You'll also have access to millions of miles of driving data from a diverse set of sensors, enabling you to develop innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and deployment of VLMs and LLMs for perception applications
  • Promote collaboration with problem domain teams and research teams across Alphabet
  • Drive the development of model platforms for perception, powering offboard and onboard applications for the Waymo Driver

Requirements:

  • Deep learning expertise, including recent innovation in large pre-trained foundational models and architecture performance optimizations
  • Experience with LLMs or VLMs
  • Execution mindset and skills in a fast-paced environment

We prefer:

  • PhD in Computer Science or a similar discipline, or an equivalent amount of deep learning experience with 8+ years of experience
  • Strong background in perception-related domains, such as object detection/classification, scene understanding, transformer modeling, model scaling, self-supervised learning
  • Publications at top-tier conferences like CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, ICML, ICRA, RSS, NeurIPS, AAAI, IJCV, PAMI

Waymo employees are eligible to participate in our discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements. The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is $272,000 - $346,000 USD.
