Pennington Biomedical Research Center, affiliated with Louisiana State University, is a leading institution dedicated to advancing medical research focused on obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and dementia. Our center encompasses a diverse range of research areas, including Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, facilitating both targeted investigations and translational science. With a robust support system from multiple NIH Research Centers, our team consists of approximately 65 faculty members and 20 postdoctoral fellows, collaborating across 44 laboratories and 13 specialized core service facilities.
Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a Clinical Research Nurse to join our Clinical Trial Inpatient Unit. This role involves delivering direct nursing care while adhering to established nursing protocols and institutional guidelines. The Clinical Research Nurse will also provide clinical supervision, education, and direct intervention for participants involved in specific clinical trial studies as outlined by study protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initiate and maintain intravenous access, perform venipuncture, and manage blood sample collection, along with other nursing tasks.
- Administer medications via various routes including oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, sublingual, rectal, topical, and intranasal, in accordance with medication administration standards and specialized study protocols.
- Assist in medical procedures, manage participant admissions and discharges, and monitor metabolic chambers.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related health field.
- Active RN license in the State of Louisiana.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a registered nurse.
- Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification post-hire.
- Proficient IV and venipuncture skills.
