Position Summary:

The CNA/caregiver plays a vital role in providing medical and physical care to residents, enabling them to function at their highest possible level. This care is provided under the leadership of a professional nurse, with the caregiver serving as the residents' closest advocate in the household.

The caregiver promotes residents' psychosocial well-being through meaningful relationship building and works with the household team to meet other social service needs. They plan and facilitate social activities, providing opportunities for recreation, exercise, relationship building, and fun.

The caregiver also supports the household homemaker in maintaining a clean and safe environment, including caring for residents' personal laundry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Attend to all resident personal hygiene and personal care needs, including grooming, hygiene, dining, and nutritional needs.
  2. Organize supplies necessary to complete tasks and support residents in self-care, providing care as needed for those unable to care for themselves.
  3. Follow universal precautions, proper infection control, sanitation, and safety standards in all work and activities.
  4. Provide restorative therapy under the leadership of therapy professionals and in accordance with the resident's functional maintenance plan.
  5. Observe residents closely, identifying changing needs and conditions, and report immediately to nursing.
  6. Participate actively in the resident's plan of care, serving as the residents' closest advocate in directing their care and honoring their preferences.
  7. Work collaboratively with all household team members to meet the needs and desires of all household residents.
  8. Continually seek opportunities to meet residents' psychosocial needs through care planned and spontaneous actions.
  9. Plan and organize social activities for individual residents, small groups, and for the household, making necessary arrangements to ensure success.
  10. Seek opportunities throughout the day to facilitate spontaneous activities of resident choice and household preference, accompanying residents in all activities of choice.
  11. Maintain equipment, games, and supplies for use in supporting resident and household activity choices.
  12. Maintain appropriate documentation in support of social service and activity functions in the household.
  13. Maintain clean spaces in the household, including resident rooms, household common spaces, and support spaces and equipment.
  14. Maintain a supply of materials to meet resident needs in the household.
  15. Support all aspects of the household environment, including pets, plants, children, visitors, and guests, facilitating all planned and spontaneous needs and activities.
  16. Coordinate work with the household homemaker to ensure the personal laundry needs of the resident are met within the staffing resources of the household.
Education and/or Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required. 2+ years in a Skilled Nursing/Memory Care/Assisted Living Facility and dementia experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • North Carolina Certified Nurse Aide One. Graduate of a state-approved program for nursing assistants. Competency evaluated, tested, and registered with the state.
