Position Overview

The MRI Technologist II role at Houston Methodist involves executing a range of standard to intricate diagnostic MRI procedures, including both routine and specialized examinations of significant complexity. This position is integral to the direct patient care team and demonstrates full proficiency in all facets of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations. As a mentor, the MRI Technologist II guides MRI Technologist I and students, leveraging expertise to train and educate others effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Collaboration: Fosters a supportive work atmosphere and contributes to a cohesive, team-oriented unit that collaborates to achieve optimal departmental outcomes. Communicates effectively with all members of the patient care team, ensuring the sharing of relevant patient care information.
  • Mentorship: Provides guidance and support to MRI Technologist I and students, enhancing their confidence and skills. Encourages accountability among peers to meet departmental objectives for retention and engagement.
  • Communication: Maintains open and professional communication, both verbal and written, to facilitate understanding and resolve issues, ensuring high-quality service during every patient interaction.

Service Delivery

  • Conducts diagnostic MRI procedures, encompassing both standard and specialized exams that utilize magnetism, radio waves, and computer technology to generate detailed images of bodily structures.
  • Proactively evaluates and addresses patient needs to enhance care quality, image clarity, and overall patient experience, including adjustments in positioning and technical factors.
  • Assists physicians during diagnostic or specialized MRI procedures, ensuring adherence to sterile techniques.
  • Delivers clear explanations and instructions to patients and their families, using appropriate terminology and communication methods.

Quality and Safety Standards

  • Adheres to safety protocols and conducts all imaging procedures in compliance with established standards. Maintains sterile techniques and ensures adherence to MRI safety and infection control guidelines.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and contributes to quality and safety targets, reporting any near misses and errors to enhance processes.
  • Ensures imaging equipment is properly maintained and operational, reporting any issues to management.
  • Participates in the implementation and education of departmental safety initiatives.

Documentation and Resource Management

  • Accurately documents patient procedures and enters charges promptly.
  • Utilizes resources efficiently and manages time effectively to prioritize daily tasks.

Professional Development

  • Engages in special projects and departmental initiatives, seeking opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Creates a constructive learning environment for students and colleagues, aligning educational opportunities with departmental goals.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited educational program recognized by the relevant credentialing body.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as an MRI Technologist.
  • Required certifications include ARRT-MR, ARMRIT, or CMRT, along with BLS certification.

  • Proficient in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
