Overview of the Surgical Unit

This department features 12 operating rooms and one procedure space, specializing in various fields including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, ENT, Urology, Podiatry, GYN, Plastics, and Hand Surgery. The unit is equipped with two DaVinci robotic systems to support our surgical teams trained in advanced robotic techniques.

Our health system includes three hospitals, an outpatient surgical center, a regional cancer treatment facility, rehabilitation services, two long-term care facilities, as well as home care and hospice services, alongside 34 affiliated physician practice locations. We deliver comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical services across Southwest Michigan.

Role Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) operates within the ANA scope of practice, employing the nursing process framework to deliver professional nursing care. This involves integrating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and facilitate discharge processes. The RN is responsible for providing high-quality patient care under the guidance of the Nurse Leader, adhering to Corewell Health policies and recognizing the significance of nursing care and patient/family collaboration on health outcomes. The RN collaborates with patients and families to incorporate their input and objectives into the care plan and develops educational strategies for patients and families, ensuring proper documentation of education and learning in health records.

Qualifications Required

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required within five years of hire.
  • Graduates from non-accredited nursing programs must possess at least one year of acute care experience or two years in a licensed healthcare role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • Current Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license is essential.
  • Completion of a competency-based orientation program is required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of hire.
