Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Pathologist to join our team at Memphis Shelby County Schools. As a Speech and Language Pathologist, you will play a critical role in providing prevention, assessment, and remediation services to students who exhibit difficulties in language impairment and speech impairment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Intervention: Assess students' communication skills to identify communication disorders, determine program eligibility, and develop recommendations for treatment.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with parents, teachers, physicians, and other professionals to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Meeting Coordination: Coordinate meetings and processes for eligible students, including testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, and pre-referral staffing.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop treatment plans, interventions, and educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Staff Training and Support: Instruct assigned support staff on communicative disorders, use of assistive devices, and feeding techniques, and implement prescribed treatment plans.
  • Technology Integration: Instruct eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies, such as hearing aids, FM systems, and augmentative communication devices.
  • Medical Report Interpretation: Interpret medical reports within the scope of Speech/Language Pathologist's experience and goals to provide information and ensure that treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain files and records, including progress reports, activity logs, treatment plans, and required documentation.
  • Professional Development: Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars to convey and gather information, and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Therapy Services: Provide speech and language therapy to students to minimize the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Communicative Disorders, Speech and Hearing Language Impaired, Speech Pathology, or a related degree. Master's degree in Communicative Disorders, Speech and Language Impaired, Speech Pathology, or any related degree in the field of speech & language preferred.
  • Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association.
  • TDOE Certification: The individual must have TDOE speech certification.
