Job Summary:


The Respiratory Care Practitioner I is responsible for providing high-quality patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. This role requires a strong understanding of respiratory therapy principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Assess patient's physical status by inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion, patient behavior, and reviewing existing data in patient's record.
  • Performs treatments according to physician orders, explains therapy and therapeutic goals to patient, and modifies treatment procedures based on patient response.
  • Determines appropriateness of prescribed therapy and recommends methods to physician to achieve therapeutic goals.
  • Administers intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) or Aerosol Therapy by preparing prescribed medication, adjusting the machine or device to accomplish patient's individual clinical needs, and documenting and observing patient's vital signs.
  • Provides patient and family education on respiratory therapy, including incentive spirometry, metered dose inhaler (MDI) administration, postural drainage, and oxygen therapy.
  • May assist doctor with bronchoscopy and tracheostomy, and ensures proper humidification.
  • Evaluates normal and pathologic blood and urine laboratory value ranges, and performs arterial punctures and analysis.

Requirements:



  • Graduate of an AMA-approved school for Respiratory Care.
  • Current Respiratory Care License in the state of employment.
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association required.
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross preferred.
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous working experience in an ambulatory or acute care setting.
  • 6 months Respiratory Therapy experience in a general care area.
