Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Automotive Body Repair Specialist to join our team at IndyGo. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing damage to metal, plastic, and fiberglass body panels and components on corporation vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examine and diagnose vehicle damage: Use your expertise to assess the extent of damage to vehicle body panels and components, and determine the best course of action for repair.
- Perform repairs and adjustments: Skilfully remove, repair, adjust, and replace damaged body panels, doors, seats, flooring, destination signs, and windows.
- Cut and shape metal panels: Utilize plasma arc cutters and oxyacetylene cutting/welding equipment to cut and shape metal panels as needed.
- Apply body fillers and paint: Effectively apply body fillers, sand, and paint to restore vehicle appearance.
- Weld and rivet body parts: Perform welding and riveting tasks to repair and assemble body parts.
- Locate and repair leaks: Identify and fix leaks at seams and beading to ensure vehicle integrity.
- Operate heavy machinery: Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, hydraulic lifts, hoists, jacks, and tugs to move disabled buses.
- Respond to emergencies: Assist in responding to and managing emergency situations involving corporation vehicles.
- Complete paperwork and reports: Accurately document all work completed and maintain records as required.
Requirements:
- Formal education and experience: Possess formal trade school or associate degree in automotive, diesel, or engineering program, or equivalent experience. Five years or more of body mechanic experience is preferred.
- Welding certification: Hold a certificate of training in MIG welding, or ASE certification in automotive body repair.
- Commercial driver's license: Possess a valid Indiana commercial driver's license with passenger and air brake endorsements, or be able to obtain within six months of hire.
Physical Demands:
- Work environment: Work in a deadline-oriented environment with exposure to heavy machinery/equipment, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, hazardous materials, and dirt/dust.
- Physical requirements: Ability to pass post-offer physical testing and complete physical job functions as defined in the Functional Job Description.
