Job Overview:

Under the general guidance of the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, the Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialist is responsible for delivering essential life-support, resuscitation, monitoring, and various medical gas therapies to pediatric patients. This role is crucial in assisting young patients with both acute and chronic respiratory conditions, helping them return to a healthy and active lifestyle through education and the application of diverse therapeutic techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and collaborate with healthcare teams to develop effective care plans. Patient care constitutes 100% of work hours.
  • Delegate appropriate patient care tasks to support staff, including Respiratory Therapists and students, ensuring effective communication and guidance.
  • Engage in effective communication with colleagues and other healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Actively participate in daily rounds.
  • Uphold high standards of clinical excellence in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in various clinical specialties, life support techniques, and diagnostic equipment as assigned. Exhibit competency in specialized procedures and protocols across multiple locations.
  • Administer prescribed therapeutic modalities and determine the most effective therapy options while ensuring patient safety and maximum benefit.
  • Deliver and monitor medical gases as per physician orders, utilizing appropriate delivery devices.
  • Evaluate the pulmonary status of patients, communicate findings to physicians, and recommend suitable therapies. Clearly explain procedures and equipment to patients.
  • Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts by providing basic life support and assessing patient responses to interventions.
  • Collect and analyze arterial and capillary blood samples, verifying results and clinically intervening as necessary. Document and communicate findings to physicians when appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include equipment maintenance, cleaning, and testing.
