Leidos is collaborating with NASA to provide essential flight hardware for Human Space Exploration, particularly in areas that directly impact crew safety and comfort, including Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS).

Key Responsibilities
The Laser Air Monitoring System (LAMS) Test Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design, certification, and delivery of flight hardware. Responsibilities include:

  • Offering daily insights and oversight of the manufacturing, qualification, and acceptance processes for cabin and suit air monitoring systems, ensuring meticulous attention to detail.
  • Assisting in the manufacturing and assembly of hardware within laboratory and cleanroom settings.
  • Contributing to the development and revision of work instructions for small electro-optical and mechanical assemblies.
  • Collaborating effectively with team members across various levels, including management, quality assurance, and skilled trades, fostering a positive and cooperative work environment.
  • Participating in design, testing, and certification reviews, providing detailed feedback on documentation, including interfaces, test and verification requirements, and acceptable verification closure data.
  • Preparing and reviewing variances, exceptions, and waivers to NASA requirements.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering program with 2-4 years of relevant engineering experience, or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years of experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships.
  • Experience in manufacturing and hardware assembly, or a personal interest in mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with mechanical system design, including knowledge of design, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work independently.
  • Self-motivation and a quick learning ability to adapt to diverse subjects and challenges.
  • Capability to work in a cleanroom environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates may also have:

  • Knowledge of NASA ECLSS requirements.
  • Experience with optical components and high-precision small components.
  • Familiarity with Commercial Crew design and verification documentation.
  • Understanding of NASA and ISS standards, practices, and safety requirements.
  • Experience using CAD tools for manipulating CAD models or STP files.
  • Experience with Solumina or similar software for developing work instructions and manufacturing orders.

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $65,000 to $117,500. This range serves as a general guideline and is not a guarantee of compensation. Factors influencing the offer may include job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and internal equity.
