Job Title: RN Medical Unit, PRN Nights

Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team as a Medical Unit RN, PRN Nights. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing comprehensive diabetes education and care to patients with Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and patients at high risk of developing diabetes.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing telephonic communication, video teleconferencing, and in-person education sessions to patients. They will also assist in the planning, coordinating, and providing of diabetes-related health promotion activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diabetes education and experience collaborating with various disciplines for project completion.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive diabetes education and care to patients with Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and patients at high risk of developing diabetes.
  • Assist in the planning, coordinating, and providing of diabetes-related health promotion activities.
  • Collaborate with village clinic and hospital staff to promote diabetes standards of care and inform of new advances in diabetes care.
  • Maintain the Diabetes Registry and grant requirements.
  • Participate in all program outreach activities, including monthly Diabetes Support Groups and radio shows, media campaigns, and special events.
  • Participate in department planning and goal setting to achieve excellence in patient care and partnership with our tribal leaders.
Requirements:
  • Must have completed a program of education in nursing from an NLN approved institution.
  • Two (2) years experience in a clinical health setting.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with a variety of disciplines for project completion.
  • Background in Diabetes Education required.
  • Occasional long working hours.
Unit Specific Information:

This position requires occasional village travel and work in a typical office, hospital, and village clinic setting. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of utilization and electronic health records, as well as the ability to operate diabetes care medical equipment such as glucometers. Travel to villages via small plane/sub-arctic conditions, moderate lifting of equipment.
