Job Overview:

This position is part of the Business and Income Tax Division at the State of Montana, ensuring secure handling of taxpayer information and data. Auditing technicians perform a variety of duties assigned by management, including conducting examinations of tax returns, adjusting tax returns, conducting research, communicating internally and externally, and participating in the appeal process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply basic accounting and financial reporting principles
  • Understand State and Federal tax regulations
  • Conduct research and analysis
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail
  • Apply basic mathematics
  • Resolve conflicts and provide customer service
  • Operate Microsoft programs and other database applications
  • Communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and interpersonally
