Job Summary

The Nurse Leader plays a vital role in delivering exceptional healthcare services to the RIT student population while ensuring the smooth daily operations of the nursing staff in the Student Health Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide primary care, emergency services, and health education to students, emphasizing personal health awareness to enhance student success.
  • Lead and supervise the nursing team, ensuring that services uphold the highest standards of care and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Clinical Services to develop and implement nursing initiatives and quality improvement projects.
  • Manage staffing, including time off requests and time cards, and conduct performance appraisals, lead and participate in hiring and termination decisions.
  • Participate in professional development and learning opportunities for self and team, including formal nursing professional development, team building, and participation in department, division, or university committees.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and professional license as a Registered Nurse.
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience with 3 years in a leadership role in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be a self-starter.
  • Proficient in triage, immunizations, assessment of emergency situations, and phlebotomy.
  • Ability to complete responsibilities requiring standing and walking with light lifting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team.
  • Manage confidential and private health care and personnel information per university and professional standards.
  • Competence using electronic medical records, word processing, email, and electronic calendaring software.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences.
  • Leadership skills to effectively lead and motivate a team of nurses and other healthcare staff.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex healthcare situations and make informed decisions.
  • Emotional intelligence and empathy to provide compassionate care and support to patients and their families.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to nursing practice.
  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with advancements in healthcare practices and technologies.
  • Conflict resolution skills to handle interpersonal conflicts and demanding situations within the healthcare setting.
  • Ability to adapt to change and remain resilient in the face of challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage workflows, schedules, and resources effectively.

  • Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles to ensure equitable healthcare delivery.
  • Knowledge of ethical principles and professional standards governing nursing practice.
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years outpatient experience, college health experience preferred.
  • Experience with telephone triage.
