Job Title: Psychiatric Physician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Psychiatric Physician to join our team at Eastern State Hospital. As a Psychiatric Physician, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient populations.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for patient care, including examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient populations.
  • Serves as a medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
  • Completes admission medical assessments, including history and physical examinations, mental status examinations, and entering admission orders.
  • Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
  • Monitors patients' progress, including laboratory values and special procedures, with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.
  • Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
  • Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioners to provide DSM-5 diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessments.
  • Provides coverage to the medical clinic and admission suite to ensure the admission process is completed.
  • Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices, assesses and addresses medication side-effects, and reports adverse drug reactions.
  • Ensures timely and quality documentation in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
Requirements:
  • 3+ years of experience as a Physician/Practitioner.
  • Strong experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
  • Psychiatric Crisis Management and Forensic experience, a plus.
  • Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.
  • Comfortable working on admissions work-up and potential rapid turnover.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required.
Work Environment:

The Psychiatric Physician will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a multidisciplinary treatment team. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and collaboratively with the team to provide high-quality patient care.

The Psychiatric Physician will be responsible for working with adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient populations, including forensic populations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and will be able to provide high-quality patient care in a variety of settings.

The Psychiatric Physician will be required to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively with the team to provide timely and quality documentation in patient records.
