About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Safety Consultant to join our team at WSP. As a Fire Safety Consultant, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance for design, development, site survey, and testing & inspecting of fire and life safety systems on building projects in the public and private sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the research, design, concept development, planning, and optimal integration of automatic fire alarm systems.
  • Assist with building and fire code analysis review and compliance.
  • Design of automatic fire sprinkler systems.
  • Knowledge of BIM, CAD, REVIT for Low-Level complexity projects as appropriate.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of NFPA, FM Global, Building and Fire Code Standards.
  • Executes directions as provided by engineers and management.
  • Performs coordination by reviewing drawings supplied by vendors, other team engineers and architects while implementing design modifications as necessary.
  • With assistance, gathers appropriate resources in order to assist in problem solutions.
  • Assists engineers and management by resourcing input on staffing allocations to meet business needs.
  • Believes in and champions the firms' core values and inspires others to do the same.
  • Supports creative thinking and innovation that adds value at the discipline level.
  • Communicates engineering concepts and ideas, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the ability to react to client (internal/external) needs and expectations, while developing skills in proactive communication.
  • Assist in the commissioning of fire life safety systems.
Requirements
  • Related Bachelors or Associates Degree in Fire Protection Technology, Drafting, Engineering or Architectural; or equivalent years of experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of fire alarm and life safety experience.
  • Knowledge of REVIT and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NICET Level II or III Water-Based Systems Layout.
  • AUTODESK Certified Professional.
  • Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
