Electrical Engineer III Job Description

NanoString is a pioneering company in the field of spatial biology, and we're seeking an Electrical Engineer III to join our team. As a key member of our cross-functional team, you'll play a crucial role in improving our NanoString instrument and consumable products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop critical components and subsystems to enhance product performance and reliability.
  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with engineering changes.
  • Conduct verification activities, including testing and analysis, to ensure product quality.
  • Create and implement engineering change orders (ECOs), including supporting documentation, CAD, and engineering drawings.
  • Investigate and resolve issues with internal and external customers.
  • Support product end-of-life (EOL) cycles and coordinate repair and refurbishment activities.
  • Collaborate with Quality, R&D Science, Software, and Field Service teams to improve product quality, sourcing options, and component and build costs.
  • Develop and implement quality control testing and test fixtures to improve manufacturing processes.
Requirements:
  • 4+ years of experience in product development, sustaining, or manufacturing engineering, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • B.S. and/or M.S. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Practical aptitude for hands-on work with various systems, including electromechanical, optics, fluidic, and software.
  • General familiarity with engineering principles in areas such as instrument control and automation, optics and imaging, motion control, and electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with ECAD software (preferably Altium or equivalent) and Product Data Management (PDM).
  • Desired: experience with electrical test equipment, oscilloscopes, soldering irons, microcontrollers (ARM), circuit board design and manufacture, etc.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of complex data sets and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Knowledge of quality control principles, business processes, management systems, and common software applications.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to clarify and reach consensus.
  • Proactive approach to issues and their resolution.
