GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Engage in collaborative teaching of nursing theory and practical clinical skills within a concept-driven curriculum. Responsibilities include planning, overseeing, and assessing student competencies through simulations and clinical experiences in designated healthcare settings. Faculty will be responsible for delivering both theoretical and practical instruction, which encompasses lectures, laboratory work, simulations, and clinical placements. Additional duties involve student mentorship, maintaining office hours, participating in institutional committees, supporting extracurricular initiatives, engaging in professional development, and collaborating across departments to enhance student skills in communication, computation, and problem-solving. Faculty may be assigned courses in various formats, including evening, weekend, dual credit, and online classes, and must be willing to travel to clinical sites as needed. This position reports to the Program Director for Associate Degree Nursing and does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of: 1. Subject matter expertise; 2. Research and evidence-based practices; 3. Current trends in teaching and learning theories applicable to Associate Degree Nursing. Skills: 4. Support the philosophy of the nursing department; 5. Maintain office hours; 6. Advise students; 7. Teach at the postsecondary level; 8. Utilize technology to enhance instruction; 9. Assess student performance; 10. Promote and support relevant extracurricular activities; 11. Collaborate across departments to develop student skills; 12. Establish and maintain effective working relationships; 13. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical demands may include sustained attention for extended periods, light lifting (up to 30 lbs.), and some mobility within the workplace. The work environment is generally safe with minimal hazards, typically in a standard office setting with appropriate controls for health and comfort.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: A Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, demonstrating teaching capabilities and current clinical expertise in relevant subject areas.

Special Requirement: A valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: A Master's Degree in Nursing Education from an accredited institution, with additional postgraduate coursework in Nursing or Education.

Experience: Background in medical-surgical nursing and experience in postsecondary education within ADN or BSN programs.

Certifications: Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) or equivalent education-related nursing/healthcare certification.
