Job Summary

As a Medical Assistant with Sentara, you will work directly with a doctor, conducting phlebotomy, clinical, and clerical duties. This role involves bringing patients into rooms, taking vitals, verifying patient information, and preparing them for the doctor.

This position requires a minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare setting or one year of experience as an EMT, Paramedic, and/or Corpsman. Phlebotomy experience and electronic medical records experience are preferred.

Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, or certified EMT-B is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities
  • Perform patient care and administrative/clerical tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations.
  • Work directly with a doctor, conducting phlebotomy, clinical, and clerical duties.
  • Bring patients into rooms, take vitals, verify patient information, and prepare them for the doctor.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Requirements
  • HS - High School Grad or Equivalent (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Certification - American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
  • EMT Basic - Certifications - National Registry Of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - Certification - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
