The PA/NP will play a crucial role in assessing and managing a diverse population of surgical patients. This includes performing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, developing comprehensive care plans, and conducting ongoing evaluations.
The ideal candidate will adhere to all relevant state and federal regulations, as well as institutional policies, including the Scope of Practice and prescriptive guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in Cardiothoracic surgery
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in operating rooms, specifically with endoscopic vein harvesting using the Maquet-Getinge system and first assisting.
The compensation for this position ranges from $125,000 to $150,000, depending on relevant experience.
Work Schedule:
- Monday through Friday with rotating OR coverage
- Involvement in rounding and evaluating CVICU, floor, and clinic patients
- Two full days dedicated to clinics, with patient consultations on other days as needed
- 1:4-5 weekday call and 1:4-5 weekend call
- In-house NP managing calls from 8:30 PM to 6:30 AM
- Collaborative environment with intensivists in the CVICU

Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct care, including counseling, history taking, physical examinations, and education to adult cardiac surgical patients
- Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Formulate appropriate care plans based on diagnostic and examination findings
- Prescribe medications in accordance with organizational policies
- Ensure high-quality and timely documentation
- Perform bedside procedures as necessary
- Assist in the operating room and conduct endovascular vein harvesting
- Engage in multidisciplinary discussions regarding patient data
- Demonstrate expert clinical judgment in an independent role
- Complete continuing medical education to maintain and enhance clinical skills
- Fulfill additional duties as required by the department
Requirements for Physician Assistants:
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies
- Unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant
- Certification (PA-C) from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Unrestricted DEA permit for prescribing medications
- Eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid provider status
- No sanctions or exclusions from federal programs
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Requirements for Nurse Practitioners:
- Master's degree in Nursing and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Nurse Practitioner Certification from recognized boards
- Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license
- Unrestricted medical staff membership with appropriate privileges
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
