Job Summary

Bilbro Construction Company Inc. is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, and cranes to perform excavation and grading tasks on construction sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and Maintain Heavy Equipment: Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, and cranes to perform excavation and grading tasks.
  • Read and Interpret Site Markings and Maps: Read and interpret site markings, maps, and blueprints to move soil according to defined specifications.
  • Conduct Pre- and Post-Operation Checks: Perform pre- and post-operation checks on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Collaborate with Crew Members: Coordinate machine functions with crew members in response to hand and audio signals.
  • Perform Basic Repairs: Perform basic repairs to equipment in the event field mechanics are not available on site.
  • Ensure Safety Protocols: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
  • Dependability and Reliability: Dependable and reliable with an excellent attendance record and ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to Follow Directions: Ability to follow directions and work within parameters established by management and supervision.
  • Heavy Equipment Operating Experience: Experience operating heavy equipment in the heavy commercial, industrial, and civil construction market.
  • Good Safety History: Good safety history and a willingness to engage and contribute to ongoing safe work practices.
  • Effective Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, team members, and client representatives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Construction Experience: Construction experience performing grading and earthwork activities or progressive field experience in the related construction industry.
  • Advanced Skill in Operating Equipment: Advanced skill in operating at least one (1) or more pieces of equipment such as a Front-End Loader, Backhoe, Skid-steer, or Excavator and moderate skill in operating two (2) other pieces of equipment.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED: Preferred High School diploma or GED.
Work Environment
  • Outdoor Work: Outside work exposed to variant weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow) and muddy ground conditions.
  • Continuous Bouncing and Shaking: Operators are subject to continuous bouncing, shaking, and equipment vibration throughout the course of their shift.
