Park Conservation Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Park Conservation Specialist to join our team at Parks Victoria. As a Park Conservation Specialist, you will play a key role in managing, protecting, and maintaining park values and assets, supporting great visitor experiences, and protecting biodiversity. You will be part of a small, committed team that manages an area containing campgrounds and an extensive network of day visitor areas, walking tracks, roads, 4WD tracks, and remote campsites, which draw thousands of visitors per year. Your responsibilities will include pest plant and animal management, native vegetation management, Traditional Owner engagement, fire and emergency management, visitor engagement, and compliance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and protect park values and assets
  • Support great visitor experiences
  • Protect biodiversity
  • Participate in pest plant and animal management
  • Contribute to native vegetation management
  • Engage with Traditional Owners
  • Manage fire and emergency situations
  • Engage with visitors
  • Ensure compliance with regulations

Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in natural resource management
  • Passion and interest in the natural environment
  • Ability to operate comfortably and safely in alpine areas
  • Great motivation and ability to communicate well
  • Enjoy engaging with community and park visitors
