Job Overview

Salary: $12.30 per hour

Position Title: Childcare Teacher

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Childcare Director

Objective:

The primary aim is to enhance the quality of childcare and exemplify developmentally suitable practices that align with Early Head Start performance standards and the licensing regulations of the State of Missouri.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a clean, safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Organize essential care routines to meet children's personal needs.
  • May transition between classrooms or engage in one-on-one interactions with children.
  • Demonstrate suitable interactions between adults and children, as well as among adults.
  • Foster the social and emotional growth of children while maintaining positive communication with parents.
  • Address disciplinary issues promptly and in accordance with state discipline policies.
  • Implement the Conscious Discipline approach.
  • Participate in relevant year-round training programs.
  • Report any concerns to the immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain regular attendance to support a consistent and effective program.
  • Engage physically with children, ensuring their safety through quick reactions when necessary.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Execute the daily program in line with the policies and philosophies of CAP procedures, EHS Performance Standards, Licensing Regulations, YWCA, and Discovery Childcare program standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or willingness to obtain one.
  • Ability to pass Child Abuse/Neglect and criminal background checks.
  • Ability to pass a required physical examination and TB assessment.
  • Experience in a licensed childcare environment, preferably 2-3 years.
  • Competence in reading, writing, and completing forms with necessary mathematical skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

Work Environment:

  • 40-hour workweek with flexibility in scheduling to meet staffing needs and maintain required adult/child ratios.
  • Work is conducted in a licensed childcare facility, protected from adverse weather and contaminants.
  • Some evening or weekend work may be necessary for staff meetings or training sessions.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, bend, stoop, and lift, generally not exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Consistent ability to engage in activities requiring cooperation, instruction, or communication with others.
  • Effective communication skills in person with program participants, funders, and staff.
