San Joaquin Delta College is seeking a highly qualified adjunct faculty member to teach communication studies courses. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to equity-minded education and be able to adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of our students.
Responsibilities:- Teach communication studies courses at the instructional level, meeting the educational requirements stated in the course description and course information outlines.
- Advise and assist students in achieving stated course objectives and student learning outcomes.
- Evaluate student progress, connect students to campus-support services, and maintain necessary records of student enrollment, attendance, progress, and grades.
- Select textbooks, audiovisual, and other instructional materials that support the learning environment and are reflective of the college's mission of equity-minded education.
- Maintain currency in the field and participate in departmental, divisional, advisory, and campus-wide committees as part of the shared-governance process.
- Work collaboratively with the college to promote student equity and success.
Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication, or Bachelor's in any of the above and Master's in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English, or the equivalent.
Demonstrated sensitivity to race, ethnicity, color, religious creed, sex, gender expression, gender identity, age, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, prior contact with the criminal legal system, or any other basis prohibited by law.
Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different student abilities, learning styles, cultures, and groups.
Ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques and equipment such as multimedia hardware, current applications, learning management systems, and online instructional strategies.
Supplemental Information:Effective July 1, 2016, adjunct faculty maximum initial placement on the Hourly Salary Schedule shall be step 5 (initial salary placement plus 4 years of teaching/relevant experience) of the appropriate class (SJCTA Union Contract: Article XVIII 18.7; Appendix A-2).
