About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Designer to join our Women's Design team at Express. As an Assistant Designer, you will play a key role in supporting the design process, from concept to production, and contribute to the development of our women's apparel collections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and support the Design team in the development and innovation of ideas and trends that support the brand.
  • Participate in research and development of seasonal trends, including runway shows, fashion magazines, and style blogs.
  • Assist in shopping retail and designer markets to seek new and innovative ideas.
  • Assist in product development at all stages under the guidance of Designers.
  • Assist the Designer in sketching and developing products for the women's category.
  • Create flat technical Illustrator sketches for Design development tech packs.
  • Participate and attend all fittings until approved fit, taking detailed notes and following up as needed.
  • Organize and update Design sketch boards for use and reference at all times.
  • Maintain all current design information, including color, prints, trims, reference tears, etc.
  • Help maintain organizational support to the team, documenting and preserving all illustrations, design layouts, and design development information for future reference.
  • Prepare line and presentation materials for weekly and milestone meetings, including line sheets, print boards, fabric boards, sketch boards, research boards, and garment samples.
  • Provide support to senior designers during design-driven meetings, taking accurate notes, helping to dress models, and providing tech pack details as needed.
  • Communicate daily with cross-functional teams and overseas offices to assist in workload and deliverables.
  • Work with the greater design team in other categories to support larger design direction goals and objectives.
  • Adhere to seasonal time and action calendars to meet all deliverables.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design.
  • 0-2 years of experience in fashion design.
  • Excellent design and sketching skills, with a keen eye for the brand.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to anticipate next steps and work well under pressure.
  • Positive team player attitude, with a sense of accountability and strong work ethic.
  • Punctuality and dependable attendance.
  • Proficiency in WebPDM, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Windows (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Actual compensation offered is dependent upon a number of factors, including work location, education, relevant skills, and experience of the candidate.

Salary Range: $55,600 - $82,100
