Key Responsibilities- Drive evaluations and design installations of engineered solutions to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.
- Analyze and improve manufacturing methods and equipment to enhance production capabilities.
- Identify opportunities for improved equipment and process design by observing factors such as downtime, equipment efficiency, new technology, quality, etc.
- Design solutions and define equipment needs and test methods to address repeat problems or optimization opportunities.
- Research vendors, make parts lists, and ensure timely procurement of all components.
- Commission equipment and may fabricate or lead the fabrication of parts and equipment.
- Develop components and packaging labels, monitoring all engineering activities and keeping relevant documents and test designs updated.
- Help establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation and conduct periodic vendor reviews.
- Negotiate favorable pricing and act as a technical resource and liaison to drive successful process improvement and commercialization projects.
- Influence and develop technical capabilities among the team and on the production floor.
- Develop and deliver technical training to ensure equipment installations or other changes/upgrades are successfully assimilated into day-to-day operations.
- Partner with Operational leadership, R&D/Commercialization, Product Development, Operations, and Procurement teams to execute on equipment and packaging designs and strategies.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define various needs on the production floor, including food processing equipment, testing equipment, packaging equipment, and designs.
- Iterate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure best outcomes.
- Implement engineering improvements and conduct post-implementation evaluation.
- Install or lead the installation of new equipment.
- Evaluate real-time effects on production and workforce utilization.
- Lead, guide, or perform equipment commissioning.
- Recommend adjustments to settings and usage.
- Instruct or train maintenance mechanic teams and machine operators on new equipment functionality and preventive maintenance.
- Conduct periodic observations and tests to maximize implementation effectiveness.
- Apply design background and technical design skills to all drawings and plans.
- Transfer complex new ideas into proposals for simple and elegant user-friendly, ergonomic designs.
- Utilize Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD to generate conceptual layout drawings.
- Attend online and in-person training as required to maintain required skill sets.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience in food manufacturing.
- 2-4 years' progressively more responsible engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, including packaging equipment experience.
- Experience with Inventor and AutoCAD (SolidWorks, Pro/E, or Fusion 360 may substitute).
- Outstanding ability to conceptualize and design complex projects in 3D space.
- Ability to perform all necessary calculations, such as stress analysis, performance analysis, pressure drop, and flow analysis, etc.
- Knowledge in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of electro-mechanical controls is a plus.
- PLC programming knowledge on Allen Bradley RS Logic 5000, Siemens Step 7, or equivalent PLC is a plus.
- HMI programming experience is a plus.
