Job Title: Speech Language Pathology Assistant

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant will provide language therapy with students who have been identified with communication disorders under the guidance and supervision of a Certificated Speech-Language Pathologist. The ideal candidate will work within a dynamic, student-focused team to identify, train, and implement intervention strategies that are appropriate for the students' age and functional level.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide speech-language therapy assistance to students that are appropriate for the age and needs of the students.
  • Follow and implement treatment plans established by the supervising SLP, maintain documentation and data toward therapy goals, document the progress toward goals, and report information to the supervising SLP.
  • Assist with documentation and clerical duties as needed by SLP.
  • Assist in the preparation of therapy materials such as core boards, choice boards, communication books, visual icons, Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices (AAC), and equipment for therapy activities.
  • Adapt and modify materials and equipment to meet the students' needs.
  • Interact and communicate with children, adults, families, and caregivers from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Associate of Arts degree in speech-language pathology assistant or communication disorders, or graduation from a speech-language pathology assistant program.
  • Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, a valid California State license to serve as a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board.
  • Computer-literate; knowledge of standard company software applications, internet.
  • Proficient written and verbal English language communication skills, including business writing and professional telephone manner.

Work Environment:

Although employment is at-will, Therapists are expected to work 206 days during the school year (consisting of 200 in-person student instruction days and related preparation time, plus six (6) days of instructional and training days, and may be asked to attend additional scheduled events (i.e., 2-3 days of training and new hire orientation are generally scheduled for the first week of August.

Vacation is strongly encouraged to be taken during school breaks and during summer.
