The Houston Landing is seeking a highly skilled and motivated K-12 Education Reporter: General Assignment Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our education team, you will play a critical role in advancing our mission to deliver high-quality, impact-driven community and accountability news to underserved audiences.
Key Responsibilities- Assist our beat reporters with daily coverage of their target districts and topics, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Contribute to enterprise stories under development by other education team reporters, providing research, writing, and content packaging support.
- Pitch and lead on enterprise stories aligned with our target districts and topics, demonstrating a deep understanding of our audience's needs and interests.
- Develop explainers, guides, and other resources that align with the education team's target districts and topics, showcasing your ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Collaborate with our audience engagement producer to create and disseminate content to our target audience, ensuring that our stories reach and resonate with our readers.
- Spanish fluency is required for this position, given the large share of students and families in our target districts who primarily speak Spanish.
- Strong writing and multimedia skills, with the ability to generate written and/or video content in Spanish.
- A demonstrated willingness and ability to tackle daily assignments, which may require reporting and writing a story on the same day.
- Experience covering education is beneficial, but we are seeking a reporter who will approach the position with a fresh, open-minded, and audience-first perspective.
- Compensation commensurate with experience, with a minimum salary of $70,000.
