Job Summary

As a Nursing Assistant I Med/Surg at UNC Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a hospital, clinic, or home health care setting. Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician, you will assist with routine examinations and procedures, procure equipment and supplies, and provide indirect care to patients and assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures.
  • Provide indirect care to patients and assigned areas, including cleaning the work area, changing linens, re-stocking supplies, and transporting patients/supplies/specimens.
  • Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions.
  • Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in the plan of care for routine activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation.
  • Provide care/treatments to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including vital sign measurement, height and weight measurement, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, postural drainage, and supportive patient and family interactions.
Requirements
  • Listing as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Prefer six (6) months of nursing assistant experience.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English language and able to develop basic computer skills.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. This is not a State employed position.
