About the Role:
The Safety Lieutenant will provide leadership and management to the Department of Climate and Safety team. This role will oversee the coordination and management of safety and security services to the District's students, staff, visitors, and physical assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with District and Department policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Oversee and coordinate new hire training and annual in-service training for all staff.
- Manage the oversight and management of the assigned Division within the DoCS.
- Develop effective and harmonious working relationships and active partnerships with law enforcement and other emergency services.
- Complete personnel performance evaluations fairly and consistently.
- Assist the DoCS leadership in various administrative functions.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all related DoCS technology systems.
- Ensure the compilation of accurate statistical and other data.
- Respond to requests for safety and security assistance from individual schools/sites.
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's or relevant work experience.
- 7+ years of management responsibility.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a City and County of Denver Merchant Guard License and/or Denver Code Enforcement Authorization.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
- Strong organizational and analytic skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to develop and interpret data and manage resources.
- Ability to motivate and influence others.
- Ability to effectively lead a team.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Google Workspace.
- Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several high-priority projects in parallel.
- High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.
- Possess high level of knowledge of criminal justice system, local, state, and federal laws and ordinances and the ability to work closely with all persons responsible for enforcement.
- Complete knowledge of duties and responsibilities of Campus Security Officers.
- Familiar with all operational procedures and policies of the department and the base functions of other divisions and units of the department.
- Possess a very high degree of positive work and professional ethics and dependability.
- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able and willing to take physical control of persons who are committing crimes against others while on school district property.
- Ability to interact with diverse customer populations and workforce and to mitigate potentially volatile situations.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough preliminary investigations including interviews of victims and witnesses, recognition and collection of evidence, and accurate report writing and documentation of information received.
- Familiarity with the geographic boundaries of the School District and a good working knowledge of all buildings.
- Ability to apply independent thinking to decision making within confines of established procedures.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
