Job Summary

Covenant Health (Tennessee) is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team in an Occupational Health setting. As a Medical Assistant, you will provide professional clinical care to patients receiving treatments and examinations in an outpatient clinical setting under the supervision of the attending provider and practice office manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' general condition and take vital signs and weight.
  • Assist providers with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments, including phlebotomy, injections, suturing, and other typical office procedures.
  • Orient, instruct, and train assigned personnel as applicable.
  • Provide basic patient care as ordered.
  • Ensure test results are received and relayed to patients in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to patients' comfort and privacy by using the AIDET fundamentals of communication.
  • Document all interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record.
  • Promote wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating providers' advice and instructions.
  • Triage patient phone calls regarding urgency of appointments.
  • Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and well-maintained equipment.
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters regarding the practice, patients, and employees.
  • Possess the ability to use a variety of office and medical equipment, including telephone, computer, fax, stethoscope, EKG machine, ear washing equipment, scales, thermometers, blood pressure cuff, breath alcohol machine, and basic lab equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.
  • Maintain equipment in clean operating condition.
  • Perform referrals and pre-certifications as needed and where applicable.
  • May schedule patient appointments per physician orders and relay accurately to patients.
  • Take calls from outside facilities and relay appropriate information to practitioner in a timely manner.
  • Attend offsite clinic functions when applicable.
  • Collaborate with the patient, physician, and other care team members as part of a team-based approach to overall patient care.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Complete required education assignments annually.
  • Work toward achieving goals and objectives, and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Requirements
  • Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
  • Minimum Experience: One (1) year of experience required in either field or combination thereof.
  • Licensure Requirement: Must have and maintain CCMA or equivalent recognized MA certification. CPR required. Must be certified as a Medical Assistant from a recognized certifying organization. American Heart Association BLS required.
