About the Position
The Associate Vice President for Strategic Research Growth is a key leadership role within the Office of Research at the University of Georgia. This position is responsible for cultivating and supporting interdisciplinary research teams across campus to advance and realize the full potential of current and future integrative teams for the growth of UGA's intellectual capacity and grant funding support.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee research development proposal support, including high-profile and complex proposal support, training grant support, institutional commitment coordination, and limited submissions coordination and proposal writing.
- Manage and provide coordination for internal funding programs of the Office of Research, including pre-seed grants, presidential interdisciplinary seed grant administration, faculty seed grants, and OoR internal research support co-funding awards.
- Lead the growth and refinement of a UGA environment that provides a comprehensive, coordinated support framework for convergent faculty teams, including strategic planning, team training, team support, and similar activities.
- Serve as a liaison and catalyst for cultivating and developing new centers, institutes, and strategic initiatives for growing interdisciplinary research.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Research, Sponsored Program teams, Innovation Gateway, business staff, the Provost's Office, UGA Colleges and Schools, the Graduate School, and centers and institutes on campus to execute duties.
Requirements
- Must be a current UGA Professor with Tenure.
- Experience building successful academic teams and programs within and across units.
- Direct experience building teams and centers with research funding organizations across federal, state, and nonprofit sectors.
- Ability to work effectively within university cultures, as well as federal and corporate cultures, to support building effective collaborations.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, including with faculty and administrative leaders, to advance mutual goals and work within a matrixed environment.
- Record of sound administrative, personnel, and fiscal management at UGA or another large research institution.
Working Conditions
The Office of Research is a highly matrixed environment, and the Associate Vice President for Strategic Research Growth will work in close collaboration with other Office of Research leaders to support the University research enterprise.
