Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Assistant I to join our team at WellSpan Health. As a Patient Access Assistant I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth registration process for patients, while providing exceptional customer service and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient interviews to collect accurate financial, biographic, and demographic information for admission or registration.
  • Explain financial requirements to patients or responsible parties and collect deposits or deductibles as required.
  • Prepare pre-admission and admitting forms, facilitate room transfers, and prepare admitting and discharge reports.
  • Review pre-arrival, pre-admission, and admission information to ascertain missing registration components, verify insurance coverage, and eligibility.
  • Collect and review registrations to ensure accurate financial and demographic information has been obtained and properly entered into appropriate information systems.
  • Make bed assignments based on patient preference, condition, and diagnosis.
  • Receive payments from patients and issue receipts.
  • Reconcile daily cash and verify account balances.
  • Compile and distribute information regarding patients' personal, insurance, and financial status.
  • Provide appropriate forms to billing and other departments.
  • Review and prepare admitting and death or birth records to ensure compliance with medical-legal requirements.
  • Verify insurance benefits assigned to the organization to determine if insurance coverage meets appropriate standards.
  • Correspond with patients to acquire required authorizations and assignments of benefits.
  • Maintain the insurance master file and update as necessary.
  • Work with appropriate sources to coordinate precertification requirements with PROs, HMOs, and other contractual third parties.
  • Assist patients with self-registration and arrival tasks on Welcome Kiosks or on patients' personal devices.
  • Receive payments from patients via the kiosk, manually when applicable, and issue receipts when requested.
  • Work with the patient while investigating overpayments, researching or collecting outstanding account balances, payment plan options, and information on resource funding.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • 6-8 week in-house registration procedures and medical terminology courses
