Key Responsibilities- Assess the daily needs of residents and assign staff to meet nursing care needs.
- Supervise and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care provided to residents.
- Document and update nursing care plans regarding changes and needs of residents.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and nursing staff.
- Participate in clinical in-service and skill development for nursing staff.
- Work closely with the nurse manager to counsel and evaluate nursing employees.
- Act as a professional role model for staff and nursing students.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of standards of nursing practice and quality of care.
- Oversee nursing staff to determine resident assignment and unit concerns.
- Work effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids, and other unpleasant elements. May be exposed to and required to handle unpredictable, emergency, and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
Qualifications- NYS Registered Nurse License.
- Long Term Care and Healthcare experience.
- Experience using EMR.
- Clinical practice experiences working with an adult or aging population in a clinical setting.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication skills.
The Long Island State Veterans Home is a tobacco-free environment. Tobacco products are strictly prohibited anywhere on our campus. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This position has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. The LISVH is a 24/7 skilled nursing facility. As such, all positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary to meet the operating needs of the facility.
