Surgical Support Technician, Certified or Non-Certified

As a Surgical Support Technician, you will provide essential scrub technician assistance during surgical operations, ranging from minor to more intricate surgical procedures.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
A high school diploma or GED is mandatory; no exceptions. Completion of a Surgical Technology Program with a license as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
No prior experience is necessary.
COMPUTER SKILLS
No specific computer skills are required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required and must be maintained throughout employment. A valid driver's license may be necessary for certain departments.
CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN:
Possession of a license as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is essential, with no substitutions allowed. This certification must be maintained throughout employment.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Familiarity with sterilization principles, aseptic techniques, and infection control is crucial.
Understanding of medical terminology is necessary for effective communication with surgical team members.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology is required to assist nurses, surgeons, and anesthetists during procedures.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Employees must not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or the General Services Administration (GSA). Compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintenance of strict confidentiality regarding patient information is mandatory.
Employees must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigations and adjudications for child care.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing job duties, employees are regularly required to stand, use hands for handling or feeling, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally. Occasionally, employees may need to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds is occasionally required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees are regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and radiation is present. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
