Responsibilities:
The Wilmington VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant for its Surgical Service Line. The Certified Physician Assistant will employ their clinical expertise to facilitate, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive healthcare to eligible veterans within the Surgical Service at the Wilmington VA Medical Center.

The primary focus for this position is in Urology, although the incumbent may be required to assist in other areas within the Surgical Service.

Key Duties Include:

Clinical Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial patient screenings in outpatient clinics, which may involve taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests such as laboratory tests and imaging studies.
- Provide treatment for less complex medical issues and participate in the evaluation of in-hospital consultations.
- Perform various clinical procedures, including:
- Simple laceration suturing
- Venipuncture and arterial puncture
- Urinary catheterization and irrigation
- Administration of IV fluids and injections
- Local anesthetic administration and wound care
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and provide patient and family education to ensure continuity of care.
- Assist in the operating room as necessary and participate in the on-call rotation.

Administrative Duties:
- Screen consultations and schedule patients in the appropriate clinics.
- Address patient inquiries and clinical issues in collaboration with team members and other personnel.
- Coordinate scheduling of necessary diagnostic tests prior to clinic appointments.

Emergency Responsibilities:
- In life-threatening situations where a physician is unavailable, the Physician Assistant will initiate emergency care, including:
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Management of acute respiratory failure
- Treatment of severe traumatic injuries
- Endotracheal intubation

Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or meet specific non-citizen appointment criteria.
- Successful completion of the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) is required.
- Must hold an active, unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in a U.S. state or territory.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory.
- Graduate from an accredited PA training program is essential.
- Additional educational qualifications may be required based on the level of the position.

Physical Requirements:
- The role involves physical demands, including frequent standing, walking, and lifting of patients and equipment.
