Housing Advocate and Counselor

We are seeking a dedicated Housing Advocate and Counselor to join our team at ActionAIDS. As a key member of our Direct Services department, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive housing support to individuals living with HIV disease.

About the Role:

  • You will work closely with clients to assess their housing needs and develop personalized plans to achieve permanent housing solutions.
  • Your expertise in housing counseling and services will enable you to provide effective support to clients navigating the complexities of subsidized housing programs.
  • You will assemble care plans in collaboration with clients and other members of the support team, ensuring confidentiality and adhering to established protocols.
  • As a skilled advocate, you will facilitate access to rental, mortgage, and utility programs, and negotiate on behalf of clients to secure suitable housing arrangements.
  • Regular monitoring and reassessment of client progress will be essential in maintaining high-quality service delivery.
  • You will maintain accurate records, complete documentation, and adhere to timeframes outlined in the Direct Service Policy and Procedure Manual.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform intake and face-to-face needs assessments for clients, gathering essential data and informed consent information.
  2. Provide specialized housing counseling and advocacy services to a caseload of clients with identified housing needs.
  3. Assist clients in negotiating housing services, offering information, referrals, follow-up, and monitoring support on a regular basis.
  4. Maintain agency standards by delivering 450 units of service per month (15-minute increments).

Requirements:

  • A minimum Bachelor's Degree, with Master's preferred, in social/human services or a related field.
  • Experience in social/human service delivery, particularly in housing counseling and services.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and economic differences, as well as knowledge of local resources and service pools.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and address critical/emergency situations.
