Talon Logistics, the transportation division of Giant Eagle, plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency of our supply chain and the availability of high-quality products for our customers. As a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic, you will be tasked with the upkeep and repair of our commercial fleet, which includes diesel and compressed natural gas vehicles, tractor-trailer trucks, service trucks, reefers, and vans.

Job Requirements

  • Experience Required: 3 to 5 years in a similar role.
  • Preferred Experience: Familiarity with Thermo King systems; Refrigerant R-404A Certification; Compressed Natural Gas equipment; Preventative Maintenance/Repair work on tractors; Must possess personal hand and power tools; Two to five years of experience with class 8 vehicles.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required Certifications: Brake Certifications; PA Class 3, 4, or 7 Inspection; Tractor/Trailer Inspections; Valid Driver's License.
  • Desired Certification: Valid Class A CDL.
  • Lifting Requirement: Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to roadside assistance requests using fleet repair vehicles or towing services.
  • Installing, replacing, and repairing components such as refrigerants, ventilation systems, brakes, engines, clutches, transmissions, starters, alternators, and batteries as necessary.
  • Operating equipment in compliance with safety standards.
  • Documenting work orders and check sheets in fleet maintenance software.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Reviewing equipment repair history and performing data entry for system updates.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance on all commercial fleet vehicles and service trucks according to Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Performing routine maintenance on tractors, including oil changes, filter checks, greasing fittings, inspecting hoses, and tightening bolts.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance on trailers, including lubricating joints, inspecting doors, and repairing rivets as needed.
  • Diagnosing equipment issues and planning repair procedures based on job orders.
  • Utilizing hand, power, and pneumatic tools, as well as testing instruments, to maintain and repair vehicles.
  • Inspecting safety devices on trucks and trailers and making necessary adjustments.
  • Testing repaired vehicles to ensure compliance with Department of Transportation standards.
  • Conducting state inspections on tractors and trailers.
