Under direct supervision, this role is responsible for overseeing laboratory activities and serves as an essential resource for Laboratory Support Technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Organizes, plans, assigns, and oversees tasks while providing constructive feedback during performance assessments.
  • Ensures that daily operations are conducted in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assists management with projects of medium size and moderate complexity.
  • May provide training for new team members.
  • Handles the loading and unloading of laboratory specimens from both automated and manual instruments, and performs various waived tests.
  • Responds to customer inquiries by answering calls and addressing questions.
  • Supports laboratory personnel in daily functions by collecting, labeling, processing, and preserving specimens according to standard procedures.
  • Enters, retrieves, and processes laboratory orders in the appropriate laboratory and electronic medical record systems.
  • Assists pre-analytical laboratory staff with competency evaluations.
  • Maintains laboratory supplies and ensures cleanliness of the workspace.
  • May update statistical records, label tubes, and schedule processing runs.
  • May conduct tests of moderate complexity.
  • May perform phlebotomy or waived testing.
  • Verifies patient identities using two identifiers.
  • Handles various administrative and clerical responsibilities including admissions, insurance verification, order entries, and medical record processing.
  • Operates in a safe and vigilant manner at all times.
  • Performs any other assigned duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Lab Support Technician.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequent lifting, pushing, and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive movements of hands/arms and feet/legs.
  • Ability to use vision and depth perception at various distances to identify colors.
  • Effective oral communication skills and ability to detect alarms or machinery issues through hearing.
  • Regular use of keyboard and data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting, pushing, and carrying of objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing activities.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • No specific licenses or certifications required.
