Psychiatry Unit Chief

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Psychiatrist to lead our Inpatient Unit at Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the unit, ensuring the highest quality care for our patients, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to achieve exceptional patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the clinical structure of the unit, including establishing and managing interdisciplinary teams and team meetings.
- Ensure the effective implementation of community meetings and other therapeutic groups.
- Participate in behavioral and medical codes on the unit, providing leadership and guidance to staff and patients.
- Provide direct patient care, including timely documentation and monitoring of patient care.
- Work with the medical-consultation team to ensure the proper identification and management of medical problems.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date legal statuses for patients.
- Provide clinical consultation to teams on the unit and assist in supervising unit psychiatrists and nurse practitioners as needed.
- Monitor the need for psychiatrist assessments and other components of applications for aftercare, including housing, residential placements, and state referrals.
- Participate in inter-disciplinary case discussions (tier reviews) of complex cases.
- Monitor medical records for timely completion and clinical accuracy.
- Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities, including chart reviews and educating unit staff on Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities.
- Collaborate with risk management to review major incidents on the inpatient unit.
- Monitor the use of emergency procedures, including restraints, manual holds, and emergency IM medications.
- In partnership with the Medical Director of Acute Inpatient Services, ensure adequate psychiatric coverage on the unit at all times.
- Assist in the preparation for surveys and maintain awareness of regulatory standards.
- Work with the Utilization Management department to conduct MD to MD reviews and participate in appeals to ensure authorization of inpatient stays.
- Board-eligible or board-certified in Psychiatry.
- M.D. or D.O. from an accredited school of medicine.
- Completed residency training in an accredited program within Psychiatry.
- License to practice medicine in the State of New York.
- Academic appointment through AECOM.
