Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead our mechanical design project teams at Burns & McDonnell. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Leadership: Lead mechanical design project teams from the conceptual phase through design completion, ensuring projects meet client needs and requirements.
  • Design Development: Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, data sheets, and technical bid summaries to support project needs.
  • Vendor Management: Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data, interfacing with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Project Planning: Participate in project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Change Management: Manage change orders and apply expert knowledge of mechanical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures to ensure compliance.

  • Field Inspections: Lead field inspections, installation, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients, ensuring project deliverables meet expectations.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications, showcasing project successes and best practices.
  • Client Relationships: Build effective relationships with clients, customers, and contractors, fostering trust and collaboration.
  • Business Development: Participate in sales and marketing efforts, identifying key pursuits and opportunities for growth.
  • Leadership Development: Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements, and provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the mechanical engineering practice.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and career development.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Advanced Degree: Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
  • Experience: 7 years mechanical engineering experience, with project experience with DoD and other federal agencies preferred.
  • Professional Certification: Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures, strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership Skills: Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
