Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Properties and Buildings team in Honolulu, HI. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of mechanical systems on infrastructure, building, and construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems, equipment, and processes.
- Substantiate reports and documentation regarding installation, construction, and operation specifications.
- Ensure that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Determine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Perform professional mechanical engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, usage, and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Develop construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans, and updating infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
- Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications; implementing future-ready solutions with mechanical engineering design standards.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues relating to automatic temperature control systems and specifications, air distribution (supply, return, exhaust), hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, etc.) and plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, storm, etc.).
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
- Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities.
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Remain current in latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
- Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with building and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in mechanical engineering principles, practices, and process. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, and 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior mechanical design experience.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and process, and will be able to apply this knowledge to project work-related issues. They will also have experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, CAM), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. They will also have developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis, and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
