Job Title: School Nurse - RN Position

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate School Nurse - RN to join our team at Magnolia ISD. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students, promoting health education, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and medical professionals to ensure the well-being of our students.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide direct care to students utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols.
  2. Serve as a health advocate for students, notifying parents of accidents or illnesses and securing medical care as needed.
  3. Coordinate the administration of medications to students at school, adhering to district policy and procedures.
  4. Develop and implement effective procedures for mandatory screening programs, making referrals as necessary.
  5. Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of the campus health program, making changes based on findings.
Health Education:
  1. Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
  2. Educate faculty and staff on health-related topics as needed.
  3. Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
Consultation:
  1. Serve as a health liaison between the school, physicians, parents, and community.
  2. Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals, working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed.
  3. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees, developing Individual Health Plans.
  4. Collaborate with other professionals regarding the implementation of health-related Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  5. Participate in the assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  6. Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary, with permission from the principal.
  7. Communicate regularly with the principal, health services coordinator, school counselor, teachers, parents, food services, and other staff regarding health services issues.
Administration:
  1. Review and evaluate immunization records.
  2. Supervise and train nurse aides and LVNs in clinic procedures and responsibilities, according to district policy.
  3. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
  4. Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
  5. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rules, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in the health services area.
  6. Report potential health and safety hazards to the principal.
  7. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
Professional Development:
  1. Maintain certification in CPR, vision and hearing screening, and as a health screener.
  2. Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct the work of licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and assigned health clinic aides.
Equipment Used:

Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermoscan, basic clinic equipment, computer, and copier.
Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.

Ability to lift 30 pounds. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
