Job Title: School Nurse - RN

Job Summary:

The School Nurse - RN is responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students, promoting health education and preventive health practices, and collaborating with other professionals to ensure the health and well-being of students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care to students using professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students and notify parents of accidents or illnesses.
  • Coordinate the administration of medications to students at school and establish effective procedures for mandatory screening programs.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of the campus health program and make changes based on findings.
  • Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
  • Collaborate with other professionals regarding the implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Communicate regularly with the principal, health services coordinator, school counselor, teachers, parents, and other staff regarding health services issues.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Certified by the Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Two years of nursing experience, preferably in community health.
Working Conditions:

The School Nurse - RN will work in a school setting, maintaining emotional control under stress, and exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. The ability to lift 30 pounds and frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing are required.
