Meadowlands Area YMCA is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard to join our aquatics team. As a Lifeguard, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our swimmers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area to ensure the safety of all swimmers.
  • Respond to emergency situations immediately, following YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff.
  • Enforce safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure proper equipment is available as needed.
  • Conduct chemical testing and take appropriate action when necessary.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training to stay up-to-date on safety protocols and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid.
  • Current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Ability to hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
  • Ability to see and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
